Maple Ridge unveils legacy projects from 2024 BC Summer Games at Telosky Stadium

The City of Maple Ridge has unveiled three legacy projects tied to the 2024 BC Summer Games, nearly two years after it welcomed thousands of athletes to the community.
During a commemorative ceremony held April 16 at Telosky Stadium, the city highlighted new accessible seating, environmental improvements and an ongoing funding program aimed at supporting local sport organizations.
Mayor Dan Ruimy said the projects reflect both the scale of the event and the community effort behind it.
“The legacy projects represent the very best of our community – our passion for sports and the spirit of volunteerism we saw during the Games,” Ruimy said, adding the investments will improve access to facilities, support local athletes and benefit residents long-term.
The projects include the installation of two accessible bleachers at Telosky Stadium, designed to improve inclusivity and comfort at one of the city’s most important athletic venues. A newly planted “Legacy Grove” of trees will also beautify the stadium grounds, providing shade and adding to long-term environmental sustainability.
The third initiative – the Maple Ridge 2024 BC Summer Games Legacy Fund – has been established in partnership with the Maple Ridge Community Foundation. The fund will provide annual grants to local non-profit groups to support grassroots sport development, using surplus funds generated by the Games.
The ceremony also recognized more than 1,700 volunteers and community partners involved in delivering the games, which brought more than 3,100 athletes, coaches and officials from across B.C. to Maple Ridge in July 2024.
Ernie Daykin, vice-president of the games and chair of the legacy committee, said the projects ensure the impact of the event continues beyond its closing ceremonies.
“These legacies ensure the impact of the Games will be felt well beyond 2024,” he said.
A ceremonial tree planting marked the event, meant to symbolize the lasting growth and community benefit tied to the games.
Maple Ridge hosted the provincial competition from July 17 to 21, 2024, featuring 22 sports across 19 venues.
